You may or may not know this, but we spent a year researching what type of sanitation system we wanted to use in our center’s pool. We knew chlorine was very bad, and never considered it. Chlorine is known to cause allergies and asthma, and recent research is linking it to cancer. Even if you bathe (or rinse your dog) afterward, the damage is still done.

It was right before Christmas 2011 when my friend Angela started the “Adopt a Platoon” program! She came up with the idea after a conversation with her friend Aaron about his brother Nate, who’s serving our country in Afghanistan. Aaron, a former Marine, was talking about the low morale among our troops. Angela has no connections to anyone in the military, but when Aaron told her that the troops feel forgotten, she felt compelled to do something for Nate’s platoon. So she started collecting donations for a care package for Nate’s platoon.

Rocky’s Retreat hosted a Pug Valentine’s day pot luck party for their meetup group. Lots of people, great food, and most important, pugs everywhere! Looks like everyone had a great time, especially the dogs!

Yesterday, I was writing a completely different article but something happened that changed the course of what I wanted to talk about.

On Monday, Sept. 12th, we officially opened for business! We started off with a bang by having an interview with the Orlando Sentinel!

Here’s a picture of the backyard, complete with landscaping! This has been a crazy week! It’s taken a while to get here. Lots of last minute activity so we could pass our final inspections and get our certificate of occupancy

We’re in the home stretch! We hope to have our certificate of occupancy by the end of next week. The parking lot has been striped, they’re working on refinishing the hardwood floors, installing the floors in the addition, putting up the fence, painting, and starting the landscaping

There’s been a flurry of activity in the last week or so. We’re putting on a new roof, the concrete driveway has been poured, and they’re working on the exterior stucco. On the interior, the insulation and drywall is being put into place. They’ve also done what is needed to stucco the pool room walls. They should be done with the stucco today, and are preparing to begin painting next Tuesday. Very exciting!

After what seemed like an eternity of a delay, we’re making progress again with the construction! Windows and doors are in, and they’re pouring part of the parking lot! New interior walls have been framed, electrical and new air conditioning work is being done in the pool room. It’s starting to take shape!
