A blog for people who treat their dogs better than family

I still find it amazing. Your dog knows when you’re happy, sad, angry, excited, upset, not feeling well – all the emotions we can elicit. As pet parents, we’ve become more in-tune with our dogs’ feelings and subsequently they are more in-tune to ours. Our dogs react based on our feelings and emotions and learn behaviors based on our actions. So be good! It’s been said that dogs are manifestations of their owners, you and me.

I don’t usually go to dog parks because I don’t think my dog Beau enjoys them. But it was a nice day and thought we should go out and do a little socializing. So off we went.

We’ve had a bunch of rain over the last few days and many people have commented to us that their dog isn’t interested in going out at all. It got me thinking – what is it about rain that dogs hate?

Things weren’t good until another dog named Blair came in after being found homeless and shot. One day they were put in the exercise yard together and Blair realized that Tanner was blind and started helping him out.

I read an article about the heart in my February newsletter from Donna Eden. Donna is a renowned Energy Medicine Practitioner, author of “Energy Medicine”, and MY teacher – OK not just mine! Donna has held hundreds of workshops and classes all over the world, so she’s a teacher to thousands! Donna shared a wonderful article on the heart in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

One of the biggest issues we as dog owners have is keeping our dogs busy enough so they don’t get into trouble. If you exercise your dog’s mind and body, destructive behavior can be avoided.

Can you tell when your dog is frightened or fearful? Do you know how to read his body language, stress signals and calming/cutoff signals he exhibits when anxious or scared?
