Today, for many of us, our dogs are our family, our furry children. They are more dependent on us than their 2-legged non-furry counterparts and we want them to grow, flourish and live a wonderfully long and happy life. I’ve heard people use the words “Pet Parent” and “pet owner” interchangeably. While they may seem like the same thing, in our view, they’re not. So what is the difference between a Pet Parent and a pet owner? Here’s a few examples!

Rocky’s Retreat hosted a Pug Valentine’s day pot luck party for their meetup group. Lots of people, great food, and most important, pugs everywhere! Looks like everyone had a great time, especially the dogs!

Dogs have great memories when it suits them. Many of them are associated with food. Did you ever notice how our dogs just know where all the goodies are located? They never forget. I’m not just referring to the treat jar at home but all the treat jars in the neighborhood. If the dog received the treat from one kindly person, they’ll remember, and when out for a walk may want to take the route that leads to the reward.

Don’t know about you, but we love spending time with our dogs. As such, we are always looking for activities that we can share with our dogs. Why does this matter? Why should we look for ways to spend time with our dogs?

I took my dog Beau to the groomer this morning and began to wonder what our dogs think about when we take them to get fully manicured and/or when we outfit them in the latest couture. They are dogs, they probably don’t really care. Do you think they look in the mirror, prance around and admire themselves? I don’t think so! It’s really for us, their owners. We want them to look cute – for most of us, they’re our children.

Today is a special day – 11/11/11, the only time this century the 2 digits for month, day, and year are all ones. At 11:11am today, date and time will be all ones. As a former software engineer, I think about how all programming languages have at their core the basic values of ones and zeros, one means yes, and zero means no. So on a spiritual level, today is a day for “yes.”

Whenever my husband and I travel, we’re much happier if our dog can come with us. When Rocky was alive, we took trips as far north as North Carolina with Rocky in tow. Now that we have Yankee in our lives, the same is true. If we can take our dog, we do.

It’s a sunny warm day, and Beau wants to lay in the grass soaking up the sun.
